Background

The Braidwood Generating Station consists of two pressurized water reactors. Construction began in 1975 (Units 1 & 2) with licensed operations commencing in 1988.

In 2016, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission granted an additional twenty-year license renewal for both reactors, extending their licensed operational life to 2046 (Unit 1) and 2047 (Unit 2).
