Data analysis: Depopulation, workforce issues plague Southern Vermont economy
Population growth and workforce development are pressing concerns in many parts of New England, and particularly in southern Vermont. Statewide, Vermont’s population barely grew between 2014 and 2018. In southern Vermont’s Bennington, Rutland and Windham counties, the population dropped 4% to 5% in that period, a trend that is expected to continue.
