Background
The Indian Point nuclear power station consists of two pressurized water reactors. Construction began in 1966 (Unit 2) and 1968 (Unit 3) with licensed operations commencing in 1974 and 1976 respectively.
In 1973 (Unit 2) and 1975 (Unit 3), the NRC granted Indian Point a forty-year operating license for both units. In 2017, Entergy and the State of New York reached a settlement governing the closure of Indian Point in 2020-2021. Updates from the Indian Point Closure Task Force can be found here.
