Millstone 1 was a 660 MW boiling water reactor. Construction began in 1966 and received its operating licenses in 1970. Equipment issues caused the plan to shut down in 1995 and operations were permanently ceased in 1998.


The owners of Millstone 1 plan to keep the plant in SAFSTOR until 2048 at which time decommissioning si scheduled to commence. Millstone 1’s nuclear fuel is presently housed in the spent fuel pool.


The Millstone nuclear power plant is located within New London, Connecticut. As of 2016, socioeconomic information is as follows:
