Background

Dresden 2 and 3 are boiling water reactors producing a combined output of 1,800 MW of electricity. These two units are the operational component of the three-unit Dresden Generating Station. Construction of Units 2 and 3 began in 1966 and operating licenses were granted by the NRC in 1970 and 1971 respectively. In 2004, the NRC granted operating license renewals for both units extending their operating life to 2029 (Unit 2) and 2031 (Unit 3).
