Background
The Limerick nuclear power station consists of two boiling water reactors. Construction began on Units 1 & 2 in 1974 with licensed operations commencing in 1986 and 1990 respectively.
In 2014, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission granted Limerick a twenty-year license renewal for both units extending their operational life to 2044 (Unit 1) and 2049 (Unit 2).
