Background
Three Mile Island Unit 2 was a 910 MW pressurized water reactor located on the shores of the Susquehanna River. Unit 1 construction began in 1969 and the facility began commercial operations in 1978. Unit 2’s nuclear fuel has been transported to Idaho National Labs and the plant has been decontaminated as necessary and stabilized. Further decommissioning of Unit 2 is anticipated to take place in concert with decommissioning of Unit 1.
